Scuba Diving Refresher; first time after 14 years (Mexico 2021)
I scuba dived again for the first time after 14 years and made a visual journal documenting my experience and key learnings to remember.
I first learned to scuba dive when I was 14 years old in Taiwan. I was very lucky to get to learn, mostly because a teacher's spouse was a diving teacher and I got to do it with some friends. The final scuba diving trip at Green Island was unforgettable and I hope to go back one day and scuba dive as an adult.
Then the thought of scuba diving kind of just...disappeared from my head... for the next 12 years of my life. Got busy with school, work, jobs, travel (on land). It wasn't until I was 26 years old, travel was opening up again, and I had accumulated enough vacation days (and savings) to go on a proper vacation (as an adult!)
I had completely forgot that I was PADI certified for all those years and had to figure it all out again. To my astonishment, PADI remembered my certification (of course) and details of my junior certification. From then on, it just took some review online and then a quick afternoon session in a pool when I started the 3 day dive excursions for it to all come back to me and feel prepared to dive as an adult.
I made this series of carousels, honestly, to remind myself of the key learnings that I had forgotten about and that I want to remember for the next time I go diving again. Since 2021, I have now dived in Thailand (2022) as well and had a wonderful time there. TBD if I continue diving and get more advanced certificates! (One needs time and money to do all that...)
