diary of a self-taught artist #1

Ep. 1 of Diary of a Self-Taught Artist in trying to figure out this tension in art learning, how much to practice fundamentals without constraining my own imagination and creativity, versus how much to lean into my imagination while still learning and applying fundamentals.

diary of a self-taught artist #1

One of the primary tensions I've experienced as I started taking my art journey seriously... I had not realized until recently how not fun I found drawing representationally. I mean, sometimes it can be fun, but sometimes it is just super frustrating and, to me, boring. It almost turned me away from art forever. My doodles and random sketches kept me coming back to keep creating and now I am on my way to taking that aspect of my work more seriously and see where it takes me. I learned that I really enjoy having unpredictability in my practice, a not knowing where this will take me, but like more on the end where I don't even know what I will be putting to paper. Glad to finally be sharing this journey with all!
